Establishing a USCIS Online Account
Date of Information: 05/20/2025
Please check back soon; this page is actively under development.
USCIS Online is the online application portal used and maintained by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”). As of the latest update to this page (May 2025), it has been in operation for several years. USCIS has updated USCIS Online several times, adding additional functionality each time. USCIS continues to add to the list of forms that applicants and petitioners may complete through USCIS Online. However, as of the latest update to this page, several common forms must still be completed in hardcopy (i.e., on actual paper) and submitted through the mail.
This guide instructs you on how to create an account in USCIS Online. Other guides will help you navigate the intricacies of USCIS Online for specific tasks, like approving your attorney’s work.
Step 1: Register Your Email Address for a USCIS Online Account
Please follow the instructions in this video from USCIS:

For a list of written instructions, please visit the USCIS Website here.
Caution:
You must use the same email address to create your USCIS Online account as you use on your immigration forms and applications. USCIS Online uses the email address your attorney enters into the form to link the application to your USCIS Online account. If the email address associated with your USCIS Online account does not match the email address you provided to your attorney during the application process, you will not be able to review, approve, or file your applications online.
Step 2: Select the Proper Type for Your USCIS Online Account
You USCIS Online credentials support access to several different USCIS web-based services. The service you will need to apply for immigration benefits—either alone or with the assistance of your attorney—is “My USCIS.”
First, log in to your USCIS Online account using the creditials you established in Step 1. Within a web browser, you can log in to all of your USCIS web-based services through the “Sign In” dropdown menu at the top-right corner of your screen on almost all USCIS webpages:
Enter your email address and password in the spaces indicated below:
Next, select the “My USCIS” service:
On your first visit to the “My USCIS” service, you must set your account type. Please select your account type carefully: you cannot change it once you set it! Select, “I am an individual applicant, petitioner, requestor, or supporter.” The “Submit” button will turn blue. Click “Submit”:
If you selected the correct account type, you will see what appears below: Congratulations! You are now ready to apply for benefits yourself, or review and approve applications prepared by your attorney. Please consult the Charles International Law guides on approving applications in USCIS online for more details. There is one for use with a desktop or laptop computer and one for use with a smartphone.
